Welcome to The Villa View!

When my husband took a job in Fort Wayne in the middle of a pandemic, I wasn't sure what to expect. I've lived in Pittsburgh for 27 years....half my life! My grandbabies are here. It was pretty scary to consider leaving here, and I had a lot of questions. Would I like this new city? What would the housing market look like? What kind of neighborhood would I want to live in? And, of course, what kind of expense would we be looking at in this new city?

I'm sure many of you have found what we found...the housing market was tight and expensive. Every house I found that I liked or was in an area of the city that we were considering needed renovations or was far outside of our budget. It seemed like we would never find a place to call home. We decided to consider building. Finding available lots also proved to be a bit challenging. Luckily, one of my hubby's colleagues alerted us to a beautiful neighborhood that still had some great lots. We found the perfect lot....1.3 acres on a cul-de-sac about 30 minutes north of downtown Fort Wayne. It looked like building was going to be the answer! Yay!

We spent months fine-tuning our plan. We walked the lot. We met with the builder. And I started scrolling through Instagram for ideas. Following so many amazing accounts and being inspired by so many others building a home was a new and fun experience for me. After all, I thought Instagram was all about posting what you had for dinner. Let's just say, I was pleasantly surprised! Not only did I find inspiration, but I started to learn from the people I was following. I built a house in 1999 and so much had changed!

Our #digday was on July 12th, so we are on our way, but I had no idea how many decisions would need to be made in advance! So many things I hadn't even given a thought to....like "what color do you want your drip edge to be?" Ummmm what exactly is a drip edge before I pick the color. Since starting this process, I've done a lot of research and asked a lot of questions. I decided to put the things I've discovered into a blog so that maybe others won't have to search for answers. I've also gotten a lot of tips from my new community, which I would love to share. It won't always be about building a new home.....I love decorating, tablescapes, event planning, and champagne. Those passions might also find their way into my blogs. Finally, I've set up a community on this page where people can ask questions and people (much smarter or in the know than me) can answer. I hope you find value in what I am sharing! I'm always open to suggestions on what you would like to learn more about or how I can improve this site. Just drop me a note!

Thanks for visiting the Villa View!

Cheers!

Maria
